Import of pork in Jan-Mar exceeded export threefold

In the first quarter of 2018, the volume of imports of fresh, chilled and frozen pork was 3 times higher than the volume of its exports, the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine (APU) informs.

In January-March, 1.8 thou. tons of pork for the amount of USD 3.07 million were imported to Ukraine. The export amounted to almost 0.6 thou. tons, while foreign currency earnings for such deliveries were estimated at USD 1.4 million.

"The situation was different last year. So, in the first three months of 2017, domestic traders exported 1.88 thou. tons of pork, while imports accounted for only a third of the mentioned volumes — 0.66 thou. tons. This year the situation is quite the opposite. Therefore, instead of a positive foreign trade balance, as last year, we have a negative balance," analysts noted.

Experts explain that the reason for this change was the lower domestic offer of pork.

Earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian Stock Breeders Association (USBA) stated that the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine was delaying the adoption of a number of important documents aimed at combating African Swine Fever (ASF).
