Georgia to export medicinal marijuana for USD 400 mln

The Government of Georgia plans to establish the production of cannabis and the export of marijuana for medical purposes, INTERFAX.RU informs.

"This is a new industry. The culture itself is not new, but the production of products that are used in the medical field is a novelty and is associated with new technologies," comments Ivane Matchavariani, the Minister of Finance.

According to the Minister, by different forecasts, this market will be worth of USD 25 billion by 2024-2025.

"We expect that within the next two to three years we will be able to get 1 billion Lari (about USD 400 million) from exports, which is very important for the Georgian economy," explains the head of the Ministry of Finance.

At the same time, he stressed that the production and processing of cannabis are aimed at exporting.
