Ukraine cut sugar exports in 2018

In 2018, Ukraine exported 586.5 thou. tons of sugar for the amount of USD 217.09 million. This volume is 2% lower than in 2017, Ukrsugar informs.

"Compared to 2017, sugar export volumes have not changed much, but export destinations have. Last year Sri Lanka (69.03 thou. tons) was the largest importer of Ukrainian sugar, but this year Uzbekistan (285.3 thou. tons) took the lead. Azerbaijan and Libya closed the top three leaders with 44.7 and 43.8 thou. tons, respectively," commented Ruslana Butylo, the Deputy Chairman of Ukrsugar Association.

In addition, 59.0 thou. tons of sugar were exported in December. Thus, in four months of the current marketing year, 198.9 thou. tons of sugar have already been delivered to foreign markets which is 14,3% more than in the corresponding period last year.

"Taking into account market situation and global surplus, despite the decline in forecasts for Indian sugar production, Ukrainian producers will have to continue their work on improving product quality and establishing long-term contracts. Questions on how to do it better and what mechanisms to attract will be discussed at Sugar World 2019 International Congress," summed up the expert.

In MY2017/18, Ukraine exported 560 thou. tons of sugar.
