ViOil crushing plant finished HO sunflower processing

Since the start of 2018/19, Vinnytsya Oil and Fat Plant, a structural division of the ViOil group, processed more than 100 thou. tons of high-oleic (HO) sunflower seeds and produced more than 40 thou. tons of high-oleic sunflower oil.

“Many multinational companies are switching to high oleic sunflower oil in the production of food as it is a healthy product and does not concede olive oil in its characteristics, but costs less. Vinnytsya OFP continues increasing the production of high oleic sunflower oil. Over the last two years, the premium for this product in the world has been growing,” said Dmitry Chalenko, Chairman of the Board of Vinnytsya OFP.

The increase in global demand for high oleic sunflower oil will contribute to the expansion of areas under high oleic sunflower in Ukraine. If last year agrarians sowed 300 thou. hectares with this crop, then already this season high oleic crops may reach 400 thou. hectares.

“The premium processors are willing to pay is the main factor in HO sunflower areas expansion. Now it reaches USD 75 per ton. At the same time, the cultivation of high-oleic sunflower does not require special technologies. The main thing is to ensure the isolation of crops, clean the equipment and store high-oleic seeds separately from the others,” said Igor Gadomsky, Commercial Director of the industrial group ViOil.

The European Union states and Southeast Asia remain the company's traditional clients for high-oleic sunflower oil exports.

As previously reported, Vinnytsya Oil and Fat Plant started soybeans processing. This season, the company reached its full designed capacity and will process 1.1 thou. tons of soybeans per day.
