Organic sugar beet sown area increased in Ukraine

In Kyiv, the Gnidava Sugar Factory organic product manufactured under the Organic Standard system was presented. Organic sugar is in high demand from the European countries and the world. This was informed by the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Gnidava Sugar Factory Alexander Nikishyn.

According to him, the presentation of organic sugar was successful, and its sales markets were limitless. Last year, 250 hectares were sown with organic sugar beet, and this year this area has increased to 350 hectares. The produced sugar beet will be processed by the Gnidava Sugar Factory.

“In Ukraine, only Gnidava Sugar Factory produces such sugar, its price is EUR 1.350 per ton. We produced it under the toll arrangements because before we make sugar, the needed sugar beet must be grown,” said Alexander Nikishyn.

The representatives of the international organization Organic Standard will oversee the organic sugar beet processing process to make sure that sugar meets all standards.

Earlier it was reported that the only sugar factory in Sumy region would not operate in the season 2019/20 thus giving no reason for the producers to grow sugar beet.
