Ukrainian agroexport increased 21 pct in Jan-May

Export of Ukrainian agricultural products in January-May 2019 increased 21.4 percent from the corresponding period of 2018 and amounted to USD 8.97 billion. This was informed by the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on European Integration Olga Trofimtseva.

Export of agricultural products in the reporting period accounted for 42.9 percent of total exports from Ukraine.

The major five importers of Ukrainian agricultural products in the reporting period are as follows:

  • China — USD 794.9 mln;
  • India — USD 740.9 mln;
  • Egypt — USD 737.4 mln;
  • Turkey — USD 683.7 mln;
  • the Netherlands — USD 640.8 mln.

Sizable supplies of Ukrainian agricultural products were made to Spain, Italy, Poland, Belarus and Germany.

Olga Trofimtseva also noted that the main export products in the reporting period were corn (USD 3 billion), sunflower, safflower and cotton oil (USD1.9 billion), wheat and meslin (USD 974 million), oilseed cake and other solid waste from extraction of vegetable fats and oils (USD 479.2 million), soybean (USD 431.9 million), poultry meat and by-products (USD 255.9 million), oilseed cake and other soybean oil production wastes (USD 141.2 million), soybean oil (USD 111 million) and  barley (USD 77.9 million).

Imports of agricultural products to Ukraine over the five months of 2019 increased 8.5 percent from the previous year's comparative period and amounted to USD 2.5 billion.

In the 2018/19 season, grain exports from Ukraine reached 49,74 mmt. The Agrarian Ministry reports that this volume is 21 percent (10,37 mmt) higher from the indicator for the last year's comparative period (39,37 mmt).
