Wheat shipment in seaports up 7 pct

In the period of August 17 – 23, grain shipment in Ukrainian seaports stood at 1.43 mln t, 1% less from the previous week (1.45 mln t on the basis of updated data), the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

In the reporting period, wheat exports increased by 7% to 1.16 mln t vs. 1.09 mln t a week earlier. At the same time, barley exports decreased to 181 thou. t (261 thou. t). Corn shipments also slightly decreased to 92 thou. t (96 thou. t).

The top-3 importers of grain in the reporting period are Egypt (219 thou. t), Turkey (154 thou. t) and Bangladesh (120 thou. t).

The leading position in terms of the transshipment volume of main crops since the start of 2019/20 is held by the port of Mykolaiv (2.91 mln t). The port of Pivdenny (former Yuzhny) provided for the transshipment of 1.86 mln t, and Chernomorsk — 1.45 mln t.

Since the start of 2019/20, Ukraine delivered to foreign markets 6.98 million tons of grain and leguminous crops. Commodities shipment increased 1.5x (2.22 million tons) from the prior year's comparative period, 4.73 million tons.
