Ukraine supplied 4-year high volume of corn to Lebanon

In July 2019, Lebanon imported the maximum volume of Ukrainian corn over the past four years — 27.5 thou. t, the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

In July 2016, exports of Ukrainian grain to this country amounted to 17.5 thou. t. In July 2017, export sales volumes decreased to 14.2 thou. t, vs. 6 thou. t in July 2018.

"This year's renewed demand for Ukrainian corn demonstrates the high import potential of this region. This is especially encouraging in the context of the current low demand for Ukrainian corn (primarily from Asian importers) and high competition from Argentinean grain, which due to the devaluation of the national currency has become very attractive in terms of prices, as well as against the background of a significant increase in the rate of export of Brazilian grain," says Anna Tanskaya, Head of the Grain Markets Department at APK-Inform Agency.

The expert also stressed that in the first ten months of 2018/19 Lebanon imported about 264 thou. tons of Ukrainian corn, exceeding the result for the entire 2017/18 (123.2 thou. t) and 2016/17 (227.4 thou. t).

"Under the APK-Inform forecast, the export of Ukrainian corn at the end of 2018/19 should exceed 300 thou. t," concludes Anna Tanskaya.

Previously reported that Ukraine is one of the key suppliers by the volume of flour deliveries to Lebanon.
