The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Understanding with German railway operator Deutsche Bahn. This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk on Facebook.

"This alliance is a logical continuation of the Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) restructuring plan, which was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy in September 2019. I am confident that the application of the experience of the most successful European railway company will improve the efficiency and quality of railway transportation in Ukraine," he wrote.

As he noted, after the meeting with the management of Deutsche Bahn last week in Kyiv, the Government came to understand the format of cooperation, that is Ukraine will retain full control over the UZ.

"German specialists will work on reforming Ukrzaliznytsia's management mechanisms. Therefore, I will immediately dismiss all rumours — we are not talking about the sale or lease of a strategically important state company as Ukrzaliznytsia," said Oleksiy Honcharuk.

He expects that German operational efficiency and zero tolerance to corruption will be the basis for changing the state of affairs in Ukrzaliznytsia.

As a reminder, the wear of Ukrainian railway infrastructure exceeds 70% (the upper structure of the track, alarm and automation means, contact group, etc.).
