Sea port grain transshipment in Jan-Apr added 5%

In January-April 2020, port operators in Ukrainian seaports increased grain transshipment by 5% as compared to the relevant indicator in 2019, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) reports.

"Traditionally, grain cargo and ore account for the lion's share in transshipment volumes. Grain cargoes in the volume of 18.7 mln t hold the top position in this period," the report reads.

Export indicators growth in the reporting period was also ensured by grain cargo transshipment up to 18.2 mln t (+5.3%).

In total in the first four months of 2020 Ukrainian seaports handled 55 mln t of cargo, 6.1 mln t or 12.6% more from the corresponding period last year.

As reported, four seaports are the leaders in terms of transshipment volumes having handled 47.7 mln t of cargo, accounting for 87% of the total handling volume at Ukrainian seaports.

"The flagship of cargo transshipment in January-April 2020 is the sea port Pivdenny with 20.6 mln t of handled cargo (+33.3%)," the USPA says in a statement.

Mykolaiv seaport ranks second with 10.3 mln t (-4.0%), while Chernomorsk and Odesa seaports ranked third and fourth with 8.5 mln t (+1%) and 8.3 mln t (+3.5%), respectively.

"Mariupol sea port dynamically increased cargo transshipment up to 2.2 mln t, which is 0.5 mln t or 33% more as compared to the relevant period of 2019, and Olvia sea port up to 1.5 mln t with the growth of 0.7 mln t or 89.2%," informs the USPA.

Previously reported that the Evrovneshtorg (EVT) grain terminal in Mykolaiv will increase its capacity to 350 thou. t of grain before the beginning of corn harvesting.
