Cargo handling in sea ports intensified through grain shipment

In January-August 2020, sea ports of Ukraine shipped 30.7 mln t of grain, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) reports.

"Ore and grain cargoes account for a bulk of transshipment volume. In the reporting period, grain cargoes transshipment totalled 30.7 mln t. Transshipment of vegetable oil increased by 4.1% to 4 mln t," the USPA report reads.

The transshipment of export cargo grew to 80.8 mln t (+5.4%), import cargo to 16.1 mln t (+0.9%), transit cargo to 7.3 mln t (+4.6%), and coastal freight to 1.6 mln t (+30.8%).

In total over eight months of 2020, port operators in Ukrainian sea ports handled 105.77 mln t of cargo, 5 mln t (or 5%) more YoY.

Container transshipment reached 690.6 thou. TEU and exceeded last year's volume by 9.2%.

Since the start of 2020/21, staple grains export shipment from Ukraine has reached 7.72 mln t. As of Sep. 2, agricultural commodities shipment dropped by 12% YoY.
