Ukraine's Constitutional Court rendered no ruling on land turnover law

The Grand Chamber of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU) on November 2 did not make a decision on the interpretation of the norms of the Constitution on land as the main national asset, Interfax-Ukraine reports with reference to the source familiar with the consideration process.

"On Monday [Nov. 2 – ed.], there was no decision made regarding the application," the source claims.

The joint application of 48 and 53 MPs on the constitutionality of the law liberalizing the land market in Ukraine since July 1, 2021, was submitted to the CCU in September.

Article 14 of the Constitution of Ukraine reads: Land shall be the main national asset and as such shall be under special protection of the State. The property right for the land shall be guaranteed. This right shall be acquired and realised by citizens, legal persons, and the State exclusively in accordance with the law.

He added that the consideration of the law on the land market in the CCU will continue at the next hearing, the date of which is not yet set.

The court hearing is closed.
