Ukraine's May sea port oilseeds shipment 5% up YoY

In the period May 1-31, sea ports of Ukraine provided for export of 688 thou. t of oilseeds and oilseed products, 5.1% up from the volume exported in April (654 thou. t as per the figures updated), the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

The bulk of exports in April was again formed by the shipments of sunflower products, totalling 662,000 t. Sunflower oil export, in particular, amounted to 467,000 t (1.3x up mth/mth). The volume of sunflower meal shipment fell by 19% compared to April and amounted to 195 thou. t. No shipments of seeds were made in the reporting period.

Soybean and products export in May summed 26 thou. t, 2.3x down from April shipment. Soybean supply came to 16 thou. t, 3.5x down mth/mth. Soybean meal export reached 10 thou. t, 3.3x up mth/mth. No shipment of soybean oil was carried out.

Rapeseed and products were not exported in March-May.

Key export markets for Ukrainian oilseeds and oilseed products in May:

  • China: 209.3 thou. t
  • India: 165.8 thou. t
  • Netherlands: 60.8 thou. t

Since the start of 2020/21, the port of Mykolaiv has provided for the transshipment of 4.3 mln t of oilseeds and oilseed products. The ports of Chornomorsk and Pivdenny handled 2.19 and 1.25 mln t, respectively.

In its June report, USDA projects the world soybean production in 2021/22 at 385.52 mln t.

As of June 10, sunflower and soybean sowing in Ukraine was 100% and 99% completed. Rapeseed areas in Ukraine are estimated at 1.01 mln ha, however, winter rapeseed planting was not finalized in 2020 as a result of unfavourable weather conditions in autumn.
