Vessel carrying Ukrainian wheat sank in Greece waters

General cargo ship Sea Bird running under the flag of Togo, Lebanon, sank in Sea of Crete east of Peloponnese peninsula, Greece, early in the morning 28 August, Maritime Bulletin reports.

The vessel was delivering 7 thou. t of Ukrainian wheat to Tunisia.

Sea Bird sank as a result of the collision with the rocks of Vrak Karavi in the Aegean sea.

Athens-Macedonian News Agency writes with reference to the Coast Guard Operations Headquarters that a rescue operation led by the Greek Coast Guard's Joint Search and Rescue Center was organized.

"Two Coast Guard patrol boats, five vessels in the vicinity and a Greek Navy helicopter headed to the crash site. All crew members (citizens of Syria) were evacuated from the ship. The crew is in good condition. A Greek navy patrol boat delivered them to Monemvasia," the report reads.
