First phase of grain terminal construction nears completion in Mariupol Sea Port

Mariupol Sea Commercial Port is completing the first phase of one of the three investment projects in its premises — the construction of a 130 thou. t grain export terminal. The facility's commissioning is scheduled for 2022.

Port's director Ihor Barsky marks that Mariupol is the only sea port in Ukraine that has no grain export terminal in its territory. He anticipates the facility to be operational by the new season 2022/23.

Another investment project developed in the port of Mariupol is the construction of a container terminal in the territory of the former coal-loading complex. The port's authorities plan to resume container traffic in the Sea of Azov. It is supposed to attract additional cargo flow and, consequently, generate higher income, the larger volume of Ukrainian products in the international markets. Mariupol officials support the port's initiatives.

Besides, a covered storage facility for metal products will be built after grain terminal construction completion.

As of 29 September (2021/22), grain export from Ukraine came to 13.61 mln t, 15% up YoY.
