Ukraine increased grain yield to record 66 million tons
In 2016 Ukraine increased the production of grain crops and leguminous crops to 66 million tons. This was reported by the press service of Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
It is noted that this is a record harvest in the history of Ukraine and it is 5.9 million tons more than in 2015. Also in 2016 the following record yields were harvested: wheat yield (4.2 t/ha), rye (2.7 t/ha), maize (6.6 t/ha) and peas (3.1 t/ha). The average yield made 4.6 t/ha, which is 0.5 t/ha more than in 2015.
According to the report, Ukraine has harvested:
- wheat — 26.0 million tons with the average yield of 4.2 t/ha;
- corn — almost 28 million tonnes with the average yield of 6.6 t/ha;
- barley — 9.4 million tons with the average yield of 3.3 t/ha;
- rye — 0.4 million tons with the average yield of 2.73 t/ha;
- oats — 0.5 million tons with the average yield of 2.4 t/ha;
- buckwheat — 0.2 million tons with the average yield of 1.2 t/ha;
- peas — 0.7 million tons with the average yield of 3.1 t/ha;
- rice — 0.06 ml with the average yield of 5.4 t/ha;
- sugar beet — 13.9 million tons with the average yield of 48.2 t/ha;
- sunflower — 13.6 million tons with the average yield of 2.2 t/ha;
- soy — 4.3 million tons with the average yield of 2.3 t/ha.
We would like to remind that according to the USDA report, world wheat stocks in 2016/17 increased by 1.3 million tons due to production growth.
