Sunflower and soybean planting completed in Ukraine

Spring crops are 93% planted in Ukraine as of June 2, the Agrarian Ministry reports. Since the start of the campaign, spring grains and legumes sowing has covered 80.6% of the areas planted in 2021.

23 regions in Ukraine have joined the sowing campaign for the 2022 harvest. Most of the territory of Luhansk region is currently a war zone which makes it impossible and extremely dangerous for producers to start sowing.

13 regions have completed spring wheat sowing.

Spring crops planted on the reporting date (thou. ha):

  • wheat: 189.3 (98.5% of 2021 sown area)
  • barley: 948.3 (70.9%)
  • rapeseed: 32.4 (97.6%)
  • oats: 157.4 (88.5%)
  • peas: 130.6 (53.9%)
  • sugar beet: 180.6 (80%) 
  • sunflower: 4,573.8 (70%)
  • soybean: 1,195.7 (93%)
  • buckwheat: 68.8 (81.9%)
  • millet: 47.3 (60.6%)
  • corn: 4,552.7 (83%)
  • potatoes: 1,104. (86%)

For the country's 2022 crop, winter grains and rapeseed were sown on 7.6 mln ha, 0.3 mln ha more from the 2021 sown area:

  • wheat and triticale: 6.5 mln ha, 0.3 mln ha less from 2021
  • rapeseed: 1.414 mln ha, 442 thou. ha more
  • barley: 969 thou. ha, 163 thou. ha less
  • rye: 109 thou. ha, 63 thou. ha less
