Prydniprovskyi Cluster of Kernel expands irrigated farmland area by 27%
The area of irrigated farmland in the Prydniprovskyi Cluster of Kernel was expanded by 600 ha with the purchase of six linear irrigation machines.
The director of Prydniprovskyi Kray ALLC Michael Petrov said the company has 2,200 ha of irrigated cropland in Poltava and Cherkasy region. This year the company managed to increase it by 27%. On the irrigated land, Prydniprovskyi Kray produces sunflower, corn, rapeseed and wheat seeds.
"We have purchased 6 linear sprinklers, 4 of which are Zimmatic and 2 of the Ukrainian manufacturer — Variant Irrigation. The latter were also purchased for comparison with foreign manufacturers. The domestic manufacturer has proven itself effective, on a par with US and Turkish manufacturers of sprinkler equipment," commented Michael Petrov.
He added that the expansion of production sites in Ukraine diversifies the risks of seed companies. This year's situation is a good example of this when the drought in Romania, Hungary and France did not allow foreign growers to reach the planned indicators. And for Kernel, new sprinklers are primarily an expansion of the seed business of the agricultural holding in Ukraine and independence from the EU producers.
"We co-operate with companies whose seeds we use in our own portfolio. These are proven hybrids adapted for cultivation in the regions of Kernel's presence and resistant to adverse climatic conditions," Michael Petrov explained. "Our partners are Monsanto, DuPont Pioneer, Maïsadour, Syngenta, and Lidea."
The seeds produced by the company will be used both for the own needs of the agricultural holding and exported by their customers within the framework of joint programs.
