russia targets another merchant vessel in Ukraine's deepwater port within two days, kills port worker

On October 7, the Palau-flagged general cargo OPTIMA was hit by a russian ballistic missile, said Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine — Minister for Communities and Territories Development.

The vessel arrived several hours before the attack for loading at the port of Odesa.

"Unfortunately, one person was killed. Five other foreign nationals, crew members, were injured. They are currently receiving medical assistance. It is important that port infrastructure is protected from terror and that free and safe navigation is guaranteed. We must continue to strengthen our air defence and bring the enemy to justice with the power of arms and the power of diplomacy," Oleksiy Kuleba said in a statement.

The person killed was a port worker, a citizen of Ukraine. He was 60.

Such attacks can only create more instability in sensitive regions of the world that depend on food imports and unrest in international relations, Kuleba added.
