Cotton areas in Ukraine expected to grow to 30 thou. ha in 2025
In 2025, cotton plantings in Ukraine are expected to increase to 30 thousand hectares. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food plans to initiate financing programmes for cotton growers, says minister Vitaliy Koval.
Ukraine is currently completing the first cotton harvest on small plots of 0.2 to 0.5 hectares.
The farmers received 110 kg of cotton seeds, which were sown on an area of more than 5 hectares. A total of five cotton varieties were delivered to Ukraine: two from the US, two from Germany and one from Turkey.
The increase in cotton areas is primarily driven by the needs of the defence industry.
