MHP's new pet food business in Croatia starts in late 2025

MHP introduces a new business segment — wet pet food production. MHP's new plant in Croatia will start producing pet food at the end of 2025, Forbes reports.

The company bought a plant near Croatia's capital city Zagreb. MHP did not disclose the terms of the deal. Perutnina Ptuj, a subsidiary of MHP, is already operating adjacent to the plant and will provide raw materials for processing at the new pet food facility. The company also does not disclose the name and previous owner of the asset.

The newly established MHP Pet Food will focus on the European and Ukrainian markets.

"Pet food is a part of our vertical integration, as we are already a supplier of raw materials for several companies," MHP's press service told Forbes Ukraine in a written response.

The company expects to start reconstructing its wet feed production facility in early 2025 and launch production at the end of the same year. MHP started setting up the pet food division in 2023.

The total investment in the construction exceeds €40 million. The plant is scheduled to be fully operational in 2026.

"The plant's capacity will be 20,000 tonnes of wet animal feed and will increase to 35,000 tonnes per year by 2028, according to MHP. 200 people will work at the plant," Forbes writes.

MHP's investments in Croatia totalled €44.5 million since entering the country in 2019.

MHP operates in Croatia as the owner of Perutnina Ptuj and its Croatian subsidiary Pipo.
