Ukraine's 2024/25 rapeseed exports fall to three-year low on smaller harvests

Ukraine exported 3.14 million tons of rapeseed in the 2024/25 marketing year, marking a 15% decline compared to the previous season and the lowest level in the past three years, according to APK-Inform.

The main factor behind the decline is a continued reduction in the country's rapeseed harvest over the past few years.

Nearly 89% of Ukraine’s total rapeseed exports went to the European Union (compared to 91% in the previous season), amounting to 2.78 million tons, down 17% year-on-year.

Among individual buyers, Germany topped the list with over 1 million tons imported (-18% y/y), followed by Belgium with 899,000 tons (a 2.4-fold increase) and the United Kingdom with 334,000 tons (up 2.5 times).

“Given the expected lowest rapeseed harvest in four years and ongoing lobbying for a potential export duty on oilseeds, the downward export trend will likely continue into the 2025/26 season,” analysts said.

APK-Inform forecasts Ukrainian rapeseed exports in 2025/26 at 2.7 million tons, which would represent another 15% decline year-on-year.
