Ukraine’s rapeseed oil exports in September surge 4.5 times as processing ramps up

In September 2025/26 MY, Ukraine set a new record for rapeseed oil exports — 108.8 thousand tons, 4.5 times more than in August, according to APK-Inform.

The European Union remained the main destination, accounting for 92 thousand tons, or 85% of total exports. This also marked the highest monthly figure ever recorded for the EU market.

In addition, Ukraine once again became the top supplier of rapeseed oil to the EU. While in July–August the main volumes came from Kenya, between July and September 21, 2025, Ukraine ranked first with 23 thousand tons, compared to 49 thousand tons in the same period last year, according to European Commission data.

The export growth in September was driven by increased domestic rapeseed processing following the introduction of an export duty on September 4. Amid market uncertainty, many farmers chose to sell raw materials domestically, which helped load processing capacities — especially given the limited supply of sunflower.

The previous export record for rapeseed oil was set in September 2023/24 MY — 106 thousand tons. That season was a peak year for the industry, with around 1 million tons of rapeseed processed.

Analysts note that Ukraine has all the prerequisites to approach record processing volumes again in 2025/26 MY. However, the global rapeseed and canola markets remain volatile, and geopolitical factors continue to play a major role.
