Russia hits Panama-flagged bulker upon departing Chornomorsk

On March 4, Russia attacked a civilian vessel departing from the seaport of Chornomorsk, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority reported.

The Panama-flagged civilian ship was damaged by a Russian drone strike while leaving the port of Chornomorsk.

According to the USPA, the vessel was transporting corn through Ukraine’s maritime corridor. As a result of the attack, several crew members were injured and are receiving the necessary medical assistance.

On the night of February 23, Russia also attacked port infrastructure in Odesa region. The territory of a cargo truck holding area near the port was damaged.

UPDATED at 9:53 a.m. on March 5. According to the Ukrainian Navy, the vessel attacked was the BULL (IMO: 9582489). The incident occurred at around 07:20 p.m. local time.

Preliminary reports indicate that the enemy used an Italmas or Molniya-type drone in the attack; details are still being clarified. The vessel had departed from the port and was heading toward the Bosphorus.

Ukrainian Navy boats were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance. However, the ship’s captain declined both assistance and the evacuation of the injured crew member. The bulk carrier continued along its designated route.
