Main buyer of stolen Ukrainian grain identified
Syria has become the main hub for purchasing grain taken by Russia from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, Kateryna Yaresko, a journalist with the SeaKrime investigative project of the Myrotvorets Center, told Latifundist.com.
According to her, Egypt had previously been considered the key destination for such grain, but the situation has now changed.
“We previously wrote about Egypt as the main hub for this grain — now the situation is different. Syria has taken first place,” she noted.
Yaresko emphasized that the shipments are systematic in nature. Monitoring data shows that vessels regularly travel from occupied Ukrainian ports to Syrian ones.
“If you open MarineTraffic, you can see a large number of bulk carriers heading from occupied ports to Syria. These are no longer isolated cases, but stable traffic. And this is happening right now,” the expert explained.
Following the change of authority in Syria, shipments were temporarily halted, but later resumed and regained volume, Yaresko added.
