Sowing campaign 2026: nearly a third of areas planted with corn and sunflower
As of May 5, according to the Ministry of Economy, 2.6 million hectares of grains and pulses have been sown in Ukraine, or 43% of the plan. Sowing is most active in the central and southern regions.
As of the reported date, the following has been sown:
- spring wheat — 177.9 thousand ha (95%)
- spring barley — 687.3 thousand ha (91%)
- peas — 252.6 thousand ha (92%)
- oats — 135.4 thousand ha (98%)
- corn — 1,346.7 thousand ha (30%)
- millet — 5.2 thousand ha (13%)
Growers in Sumy and Kharkiv regions have begun sowing buckwheat, with 0.64 thousand ha planted (1%).
Regional leaders:
- Poltava region — 294.3 thousand ha (wheat — 4.9 thousand ha, barley — 65.1 thousand ha, peas — 12.1 thousand ha, oats — 1.9 thousand ha, corn — 210.3 thousand ha)
- Odesa region — 193.4 thousand ha (wheat — 10 thousand ha, barley — 35 thousand ha, peas — 95 thousand ha, oats — 1.2 thousand ha, corn — 22.3 thousand ha, millet — 0.4 thousand ha)
- Kyiv region — 183.8 thousand ha (wheat — 25.6 thousand ha, barley — 39 thousand ha, peas — 5.5 thousand ha, oats — 6 thousand ha, corn — 107 thousand ha, millet — 0.6 thousand ha)
Sowing of industrial crops is also ongoing. In total, 2,066.8 thousand ha have been planted. Sugar beet accounts for 182.9 thousand ha (93% of the forecast), sunflower — 1,506.8 thousand ha (30%), and soybeans — 377.1 thousand ha (18%).
