State statistics service “found” over 2 million tons of unaccounted grain of 2022–24 harvests — Forbes
Ukraine’s State Statistics Service has revised crop production data for previous years and identified additional volumes of grains and oilseeds that had not been included earlier due to wartime disruptions in statistical reporting, Forbes Ukraine reports.
According to the updated figures, Ukraine harvested 61 mln tons of grain in 2025, up 8% year-on-year, while oilseed production totalled 18.5 mln tons, down 13.5%. At the same time, revised statistics for 2022–2024 showed significantly higher harvest volumes than previously estimated.
In particular, an additional 0.9 mln tons of grain were added for both 2022 and 2023, mainly corn. Overall, the revised data included an extra 2.3 mln tons of grain and oilseed crops over the three-year period.
The main reason for the revision was the restoration of full-scale business reporting, especially in frontline regions. In 2022–2023, statisticians added 150,000–180,000 ha of previously unaccounted farmland each year.
The largest additional volumes were recorded in Poltava Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, which together accounted for around 60% of the revised harvest volumes.
Corn dominated the “newly discovered” volumes with 1.6 mln tons, while wheat accounted for another 0.3 mln tons and sunflower for 0.2 mln tons. The total export value of these additional harvests is estimated at more than $700 mln.
The revised statistics will not affect actual production or export volumes, but they help explain discrepancies in recent market balances, particularly regarding carry-over stocks.
At the same time, the data revision may affect macroeconomic indicators. The updated harvest figures are expected to add about 0.1 percentage points to estimates of Ukraine’s real GDP during the war years.
