Ukraine gains wheat market share in Egypt previously held by Russian and French suppliers
Egypt significantly increased its purchases of Ukrainian wheat in July–April of the 2025/26 marketing year, with Ukraine’s share of the country's total wheat imports rising to 23%, compared to 15% during the same period of the previous season, according to ASAP Agri.
In physical terms, imports of Ukrainian wheat nearly doubled to 3.3 million tons, compared to 1.7 million tons a year earlier.
“Egypt increased its wheat imports this season to 13.9 million tons, compared to 11.3 million tons in July–April of the previous season. At the same time, Ukraine expanded its market share and captured part of the market that had previously been supplied by Russian and French companies,” said Ahmed ElSebaie, CEO of Egyptian Swiss Group.
