Ukraine exports urea by sea for the first time in seven years

Ukraine has exported urea by sea for the first time in seven years. A shipment of urea produced by the OSTCHEM Group was dispatched via the port of Chornomorsk to international buyers in Mediterranean countries.

The total shipment volume amounted to approximately 21,000 tons. Italy and Turkey were the main export destinations.

Buyers of Ukrainian urea included major international companies, including the U.S.-based Nitron Group and South Korea’s Samsung C&T Corporation.

The resumption of maritime exports comes amid the gradual stabilisation of logistics chains and growing interest from international traders in Ukrainian products. Part of OSTCHEM’s output continues to be supplied to European industrial consumers through overland logistics routes.

The company is also negotiating new export shipments with a number of international traders and industrial consumers.

“This provides an additional source of product for the global market at a time of high supply volatility and the ongoing redistribution of trade flows. For Ukrainian producers, it creates an opportunity to diversify sales channels and strengthen their presence in foreign markets,” said Kyrylo Demskyi, CEO of Nika-Agrotrade, the company responsible for exporting the shipment.

According to him, the shipment sends a strong signal to the market that Ukrainian producers are capable not only of meeting domestic demand but also of fulfilling large-scale export contracts despite logistical challenges and wartime risks.

“We are seeing strong interest from major international traders and continue working to expand export deliveries. Negotiations are currently underway on new export contracts with global trading companies,” he added.
