Ukraine becomes EU's third-largest sugar supplier in 2025/26 marketing year

Ukraine ranked third among the largest sugar exporters to the European Union during the first eight months of the 2025/26 marketing year, according to data from the European Commission cited by the Ukrsugar association.

During the period, Ukrainian sugar accounted for 11% of the EU's total sugar imports.

South Africa was the largest supplier, accounting for 16% of EU sugar imports, followed by Mauritius with a 12% share.

Overall, the EU imported 628,000 tons of sugar between October 2025 and May 2026. However, these figures do not include imports under the Inward Processing Relief (IPR) scheme, which, according to the European Commission, amounted to approximately 500,000 tons.
