Ukraine’s wheat and barley yields significantly exceed last year’s levels

The average yield of early grain crops in Ukraine has significantly surpassed last year’s figures at the start of the 2026 harvest campaign. As of July 3, the average yield stood at 4.07 mt/ha, up 56% from 2.61 t/ha recorded on the same date in 2025, according to the Ministry of Economy.

Wheat has posted the strongest increase. Its average yield reached 4.13 t/ha, compared with 2.59 t/ha a year earlier, representing a 59% year-on-year increase.

Barley yields rose from 2.84 t/ha to 4.19 t/ha (+48%), while pea yields increased from 1.78 t/ha to 2.25 t/ha (+26%).

As of July 3, growers in Ukraine harvested 251,400 hectares of grains and legumes, or 3% of the projected area, producing 1.022 million metric tons of new-crop grain.

Barley accounted for the largest share of production, with 719,400 t harvested. Farmers also produced 264,600 t of wheat and 35,100 t of peas.

The rapeseed harvest has also begun, with 2,680 t harvested so far.
