Germany's Getreide AG boosts Ukrainian rapeseed exports, targets up to 500,000 tons of new crop purchases

German grain trader Getreide AG exported 350,000 metric tons of Ukrainian rapeseed in the 2025/26 marketing year, up from the previous season despite the introduction of the 10% export duty, the company's CEO Björn Stendel told Latifundist.com.

According to Stendel, the company loaded its last vessel carrying Ukrainian rapeseed two weeks ago.

He said Getreide did not consider setting up cooperatives to benefit from duty-free exports.

"I don't see any additional profit in becoming an exporter myself. I have good business partners who do that, and I don't want to compete with them," Stendel said.

He attributed the increase in exports to gradual improvements in logistics and the company's growing experience in handling Ukrainian rapeseed.

"Every year, we expanded a little. At first, road logistics through Poland were a disaster, then there were border issues. Now logistics have improved significantly," he said.

Stendel added that most exports are now shipped by sea. All 350,000 tons of rapeseed exported by the company last season were transported by sea.

For the 2026/27 marketing year, Getreide AG plans to further increase purchases of Ukrainian rapeseed. The company has already contracted more than 200,000 tons for delivery by December.

"We may reach 400,000 tons, or perhaps half a million tons. That's our plan," Stendel said.

The company currently works with 12–13 large agricultural producers, which supplied the bulk of its Ukrainian rapeseed exports during the past season.
