Kernel suspends Chornomorsk terminal operations after Russian strikes damage wheat and sunflower oil stocks
Kernel has suspended operations at its port terminals in Chornomorsk after heavy Russian attacks on the port during the nights of July 10–11 and July 11–12 caused extensive damage to the company's facilities.
According to the company, the strikes damaged loading and unloading equipment, terminal infrastructure, power supply lines, grain silos, and sunflower oil storage tanks.
Based on a preliminary assessment, around 45,000 tons of wheat and 9,000 tons of sunflower oil have been blocked, lost, or damaged as a result of the attacks.
Kernel said no employees were injured.
The company is currently conducting a technical assessment to determine the full extent of the damage, product losses, and the cost of restoring the infrastructure. The timeline for resuming terminal operations will depend on the completion of emergency recovery work and the results of an engineering inspection.
This is the latest in a series of attacks on Kernel's facilities in Chornomorsk.
- On the night of May 3, a large-scale Russian drone attack damaged the company's vegetable oil export terminal, causing a spill of more than 1,100 tons of sunflower oil. Kernel said the spill was quickly contained, with no oil reaching the sea and no environmental threat reported. The company suspended cargo handling operations following the extensive damage.
- The terminal was struck again during a Russian drone attack on the Odesa region on the night of June 4–5, when part of its grain storage and transshipment infrastructure was damaged. The attack caused grain spillage, disrupted terminal operations, and also damaged auxiliary warehouse facilities.
