Russia attacks stranded merchant vessels in Mykolaiv ports

Russia launched overnight strikes on civilian merchant vessels in the ports of Mykolaiv region on July 27, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) said. The attack killed one person and injured several others.

The vessels targeted in the attack have remained stranded in Ukrainian ports since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022 and have not been engaged in commercial operations.

"This is yet another deliberate Russian strike against Ukraine's civilian shipping and port infrastructure. Attacks on vessels that have been trapped in blocked ports for years once again demonstrate the systematic nature of Russia's terror against the maritime sector and pose a direct threat to the lives of civilian seafarers," the USPA said in a statement.

Ukraine continues to document these attacks and calls on the international maritime community to respond decisively to Russia's attacks on the civilian merchant fleet, the authority added.
