Romania and Moldova handle 70% of alternative logistics for Ukrainian grain exports — Vysotskyi

Romania remains the main alternative route for Ukrainian agricultural exports amid the blockade of the country’s deep-sea ports. Its potential throughput capacity is up to 1.5 million tons per month, Ukraine’s Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi said at a briefing.

According to Vysotskyi, around 70% of alternative agricultural exports traditionally pass through Romania, including transit via Moldova.

“Experience has shown that Romania is the most effective route. About 70% of shipments pass through Romania, including Moldova. Poland accounts for up to 15–20%, with the remainder going through other countries,” Vysotskyi said.

He added that other routes are less competitive economically because they involve longer distances.

According to the Agriculture Ministry’s estimates, based on available infrastructure, Poland can handle up to 600,000 tons of agricultural products per month, while Romania can handle up to 1.5 million tons. Another 400,000 tons or so can be handled through other routes.
