Terra Galicia

Through the lens of a photographer: fields that inspire

Yurko Dyachyshyn
Terra Galicia is a photo project by photographer Yurko Dyachyshyn from Lviv. In this project, he shows the land and diversity of Galician landscapes. Looking at his photos, the first thing that comes to mind is: "Is this Ukraine?". And then, exhaling, you begin to look at them more thoroughly and
wonder how beautiful can ordinary fields be at different
times of the year.

Yurko Dyachyshyn worked on the project for two years: from April 2017 to November 2020. Filming took place in Ternopil, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. During this time, he made more than 100 trips with a total length of 20 thou. km and took thousands of photos, from which he chose more than three hundred of the best ones.
He chose route and location through Google Maps. The photographer identified a point on the map and then wandered field by field while searching for a spectacular landscape.

"The idea to photograph the landscapes of Galicia arose spontaneously. Prior to this project, I have never been involved in landscape photography. I even ignored and despised this kind of shooting. But what a pleasure this work brought in the end," says Yurko Dyachyshyn.

According to the photographer, he was interested in observing how the earth changes with the alternation of cycles, light, seasons. He deliberately avoided patterned landscapes such as sunrise and sunset, as well as people, animals, infrastructure elements in the frame, preferring the graphic sophistication of simple plots. We offer you to enjoy the beauty of Western Ukrainian nature.
For the record: Yurko Dyachyshyn is engaged in photography, collage, street art, and installations. His works have been exhibited at many solo exhibitions and festivals, Ukraine, Poland, France and Australia included. The photos have been published in international publications, including the New York Times, the Telegraph, Der Spiegel, The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and many others.
