USPA to implement a number of projects for grain terminals in the ports

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) will implement a number of projects in Ukrainian ports that will help to significantly improve grain logistics and increase grain cargo transshipment volumes.

This was stated by Vladimir Shemaev, the head of the Strategic Planning and Development Department of the USPA, at the conference Transportation and storage of grain in Ukraine in 2017, writes Elevatorist.com.

Now USPA together with MV Cargo is implementing a grain terminal construction project for Cargill in the MTP Yuzhny. To date, half the works have been completed on the construction site.

A tender is announced for the construction of the berth No.1-D in the port of Odessa, where Brooklyn-Kiev operates in partnership with global trader Louis Dreyfus.

"The task of the USPA is to build a dock and to carry out a dredging, so that Panamax ships could enter here. A private investor builds terminal capacities and increases the transshipment volumes in the port of Odessa," Vladimir Shemaev said.

According to him, the construction of the berth No. 8 is also planned in the port of Nykolaev.

"Now there is no berth, but next year an active construction will start. After that, we will look for a private investor and offer him to build one or two terminals here — grain, or, possibly, meal transshipment, or the oil extraction plant," Vladimir Shemaev shared his plans.

He also said that a similar project will be implemented in the port of Mariupol. Here, the USPA will cooperate with the state stevedore. State  stevedore undertakes to build a grain terminal, and the USPA undertakes to reconstruct berths №№3-4.

In addition, Vladimir Shemaev also announced the forthcoming tender for the capital dredging of the port of Chernomorsk.

"There are several companies in Chernomorsk, among them Transgrainterminal (Kernel), Transbulk Terminal (Kernel) and Risoil. These companies operate in the rear of 11-17 berths and want to work with Panamax type vessels, and for this, dredging is necessary. Soon we will announce a tender for the implementation of the project of deepening the approach channel of the Black Sea port to 16 m and the inner water area to 15 m. The second phase will be the reconstruction of the berthing wall 11-17. After that, it will be possible to deepen the berths to 15 m," the head of the Strategic Planning and Development Department of the USPA informed.
