Oilseeds exports from Ukraine in 1H 2018 reduced 7%
In the first half of 2018, oilseeds exports from Ukraine amounted to USD 651 million, which is 6.7% less y-o-y. This is reported by Nikolai Pugachev, the deputy director of the National Scientific Center Institute of Agrarian Economics, NAAS corresponding member.
According to him, in 1H 2018 the main export commodity is soybean, 1.4 million tons of which were exported for the amount of USD 566 million resulting in almost 87% of the total export of oilseeds.
In addition, 128 thou. tons of rapeseed (USD 56 million) and 18 thou. tons of sunflower seeds (USD 9 million) were delivered.
This year, Turkey is the leader in the rating of the largest importers of Ukrainian oilseeds. Its share in total exports stands at 24.9%. In January-June 2018, Turkey imported 423 thou. tons of Ukrainian oilseeds for USD 165 million, soybeans — for USD 163 million (0.42 million tons).
"The volumes of oilseeds deliveries to Turkey this year should reach 0.8 million tons," the scientist projects.
Iran (11%), Belarus (10.5%), Egypt (7.2%), Italy (7.1%), Lebanon (6.1%) Netherlands (5.7%), Greece (4.4%), Poland (4.2%) and Germany (4%) import significantly lesser volumes of oilseed crops.
"In January-June 2018, Ukraine exported fats and oils valued at USD 2.2 billion, which is 7.6% y-o-y," Nikolai Pugachev says.
The main export commodity of this group is sunflower oil (USD 2.1 billion), which is USD 187 million less than in the corresponding period of 2017.
"India traditionally domineers in imports of fats and oils of Ukrainian production, which since 2015 has been increasing the volume of purchases of sunflower oil. By the end of 2016 India's share in the domestic export of fats and oils was 29.4%, and in 2017 — 34.4%. For 6 months of 2018, its share in the structure of Ukrainian exports was 44.8%," the expert notes.
Iraq accounts for 6.2% of imports, China — 6.1%, the Netherlands and Italy — 5.8%, and Spain — 5.2%.
Previously it was reported that exports of agricultural products in January-June 2018 had remained at last year's level (–2%) and amounted to more than USD 8.6 billion.
