UkrLandFarming saved UAH 10 mln with GPS machinery tracking

Before the introduction of anti-theft systems, UkrLandFarming suffered from thefts of about one ton of corn per hectare. This was informed by Volodymyr Babiy, Deputy Director of IT Department at UkrLandFarming, during the 2nd Annual Ukrainian Agribusiness Forum.

“We came to the conclusion that before the introduction of anti-theft systems, about one ton of corn per hectare was stolen. It was simply gone. Since 2015, we managed to eliminate theft as much as possible,” said Volodymyr Babiy.

He added that it was possible to eliminate theft as much as possible by controlling the operation of machinery, in particular, grain trucks, trailed equipment, combines, fertilization processes, etc.

“99% of our grain trucks are tracked by GPS. Only due to this measure we saved UAH 10 million. Earlier we had a “deviation” of 3-5 km on each route. Obviously, this was done for stealing grain. Exits, dumping, theft on the highways — we managed to eradicate those. People are trying to bypass the system — in the field, on the road, at every level,” said Volodymyr Babiy.

The director of the IT Department noted that unfortunately the police ignores the investigation of such cases.

“We had a situation in 2015 when the combine operator stole grain. Since that time, no decision has been made by the court, and there are no perspectives,” he concluded.

Earlier it was reported that UkrLandFarming was set to complete the debt restructuring process in 2019.
