Drought in southern Ukraine cut spring crops yield by 20 pct

This year's grains and pulses yield in Ukraine will not reach record levels as an abnormal drought hit the country. Yields of spring crops including rapeseed, sunflower and corn in the south of Ukraine are 20% lower from the expected level, Kurkul.com reports.

According to Petro Sheleh, Chairman of the Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of Mykolaiv region, there is insufficient moisture content in the soil to start sowing winter crops.

"Agrarians, who have already sown winter crops at their own risk, will have to re-sow," said Petro Sheleh.

Previously reported that agrarians in Bukovina cannot fully perform ploughing, soil preparation and sowing of winter crops. Moisture reserves in the soil are still less than 50%.
