In the first half of 2019/20, wheat export shipment from Ukraine approached 15 mln t, 44% higher than the prior season's comparative indicator (10.4 mln t), the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

Indonesia, Egypt and Bangladesh are the major importers in the period, having procured 43% of the total grain volume exported from Ukraine. These countries together imported 6.4 mln t of grain, whereas in the previous season they imported 3.4 mln t, which accounts for 33%.

"The analysis of deliveries dynamics to the above-mentioned countries in the period from July to December shows that while Indonesia is the leader among the importers of Ukrainian wheat in the third consecutive season, in 2018/19 Egypt took held the seventh position, and Bangladesh was not even in the TOP-10. In 2018/19, it was Indonesia and Egypt that turned out to be the main importers of wheat from Ukraine, and Bangladesh took the fourth position outrun by the Philippines," explained the analyst Victoria Rozhko.

According to her, Indonesia purchased 2.5 mln t of wheat during July-December 2019/20, 18% more from 2018/19 procurement volume (2.1 mln t). In six months of the season, 2.2 mln t were shipped to Egypt, 3.6x more than the volume shipped a season earlier (620.1 thou. t). Bangladesh imported 1.7 mln t of Ukrainian wheat in the first half of the current MY, 2.4x higher than the corresponding indicator of the previous MY (699 thou. t).

As reported, in six months of 2019/20, Ukraine exported to Indonesia, Egypt and Bangladesh 1.9x more wheat than in the same period of the previous season.

The APK-Inform analysts estimate the total volume of wheat export from Ukraine in 2019/20 at 18.9 mln t, 22% more from the previous season. Over 79% of the projected export potential has already been realized in the first half of the season.
