Sea port corn shipment plunged 40% wk/wk

In the period of May 9-15, grain export shipment in Ukrainian sea ports reduced to 883 thou. t, 17% below the previous week's level (1.07 mln t, as provided by the figures updated), the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

As reported, wheat shipment in the period surged 42% to 413 thou. t vs. the prior week's 290 thou. t. Barley exports dropped 24% to 31 thou. t, corn supply reduced by 41% and totalled 438 thou. t.

The top three importers of grain in the reporting period are as followed:

  • Turkey — 171 thou. t;
  • China — 118 thou. t;
  • Indonesia — 84 thou. t.

The port of Mykolaiv has been holding the leading position in terms of the handled volume of staple grains since the start of 2019/20 — 16.22 mln t. The port of Chernomorsk provided for the transshipment of 12.11 mln t, and Pivdenny (former Yuzhny) — 9.24 mln t.

In January-April 2020, port operators in Ukrainian seaports increased grain transshipment by 5% as compared to the relevant indicator in 2019.
