In July-April 2019/20, Ukraine significantly increased its barley export which reached 4.6 mln t and is 37% higher from the previous season, and 28% higher from 2017/18, the APK-Inform consultancy reports. Analysts note the diversification of Ukrainian grain exports.

Saudi Arabia has remained the main importer of Ukrainian barley for the first 10 months(July-April) of this season, having purchased about 1.3 mln tons, 43% less from the 2018/19 season (2.2 mln tons).

China ranks second for the third consecutive season, which during the reporting period purchased 798.5 thou. t of grain, thereby increasing purchases by 2.5x compared to July-April of the previous season (321.9 thou. t) and by 1% compared to the relevant period of 2017/18.

The third position in this period is held by Spain. The country imported 372.8 thou. t, 2.3x more from July-Apr 2017/18. In the 2018/19 season, Sprain made no purchases of Ukrainian barley.

"It should also be noted that despite a significant increase in the export of Ukrainian barley in the current season, the three main grain importers accounted for 53% of the total volume shipped within 10 months, while in the same period earlier in the season Saudi Arabia and China together purchased 76% of all shipments of grain. Thus, the export market of Ukrainian barley is becoming more diversified," believes the APK-Inform analyst Viktoria Rozhko.

Since the start of 2019/20, grain export shipment from Ukraine has reached 53.16 mln t. Barley shipment as of May 20 totalled 4.8 mln t, 62% or 1.33 mln t more y-o-y.
