Ukraine's May 16-29 sea port grain exports halved

In the past two weeks from May 16 to 29, 1.13 mln t of staple grain crops were shipped for export in Ukrainian sea ports, 44% less from the previous two weeks (2.02 mln t, as provided by the figures updated), the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

Wheat shipment in the period slashed 59% to 304 thou. t. Corn supply reduced by a third and totalled 802 thou. t, while barley exports dropped 4x to 19 thou. t.

The top three importers of grain in the reporting period are as followed:

  • China — 259 thou. t;
  • Iran — 139 thou. t;
  • Netherlands — 117 thou. t.

The port of Mykolaiv has been holding the leading position in terms of the handled volume of staple grains since the start of 2019/20 — 16.50 mln t. The port of Chernomorsk provided for the transshipment of 12.56 mln t, and Pivdenny (former Yuzhny) — 9.40 mln t.

Since the start of 2019/20, grain export shipment from Ukraine has reached 54.35 mln t. As of June 1, agricultural commodities shipment increased by 7.49 mln t (16%) from the prior year's comparative period.
