Ukraine joined the UN Committee on World Food Security

On February 8, Ukraine joined the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS) at its 47th online session in Rome, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine informs.

The Committee is the international intergovernmental platform for cooperation of countries to ensure world food security. It reports to the UN General Assembly through the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Conference.

"Ukraine is in fact a guarantor of food security in many countries worldwide due to its traditionally high food exports. Being a member of the UN Committee on World Food Security gives our country additional opportunities to contribute to global food policy," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stressed.

He added that being the guarantor of global food security should in no way affect the food balance in Ukraine. According to experts, the national food reserves are secured and there are no threats to either exports or domestic consumption.
