Grain Alliance's grain storage in Slovakia paid off in its first season of operation

Grain Alliance acquired a grain elevator in Slovakia in the spring of 2022. Investment in its modernization totalled €10 million. The EBRD provided a loan for this purpose. The facility paid off in its first season of operation, said the Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer Tahir Musayev in an interview with Elevatorist.com.

A key factor in the operation of grain elevators both in Ukraine and in Europe is land cultivation, as it is part of the production chain, he adds. However, in Slovakia, Grain Alliance does not have any arable land, which makes the processes more dependent on other market participants.

"While we ensure the supply of Ukrainian grain, further actions depend on the railway, road transport and contractors, which are beyond our control. In Ukraine and Europe, they work in completely different ways — it's about business culture, work culture and the speed of decision-making," Musayev marked.

Asked where he would rather work, he answered:

"Definitely in Ukraine. And this is not only in comparison with Slovakia but also with the whole of Europe. We have worked in many countries, and Ukraine has strong advantages."
