russia planned missile strike on nitrate storage in Big Odesa port — Security Service
russia was preparing a large-scale act of sabotage in one of the seaports of Odesa region — specifically, an explosion at a nitrate warehouse, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported.
SBU cyber specialists detained two FSB agents who were collecting coordinates for a missile strike on the storage site containing explosive mineral fertilizers.
According to the investigation, russian operatives aimed to hit a transit warehouse where nitrate was stored, which could have led to severe destruction.
One of the agents was a 29-year-old local resident who got a job at the port as a labourer and passed information about incoming cargoes to his russian handler. As soon as he discovered the nitrate storage, he immediately transmitted its coordinates. His accomplice, a 56-year-old woman, helped him move around and drove him to “test missions” — including attempts to set fire to Ukrzaliznytsia’s relay cabinets.
“The SBU detained the russian informant and implemented measures to secure the port infrastructure in Odesa. Among other things, all nitrate was removed from the potential target site,” the SBU noted.
During searches, law enforcement officers found evidence of collaboration with russian intelligence and seized live grenades.
Both individuals have been formally charged with high treason (Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and illegal possession of weapons (Part 1, Article 263). They were taken into custody. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
