Grain stocks in Ukraine increase by 50%

As of April 1, 2026, grain stocks in Ukraine reached 15.68 million tons, up by 5.3 million tons (51%) compared to a year earlier, according to data from the State Statistics Service, as reported by APK-Inform.

Agricultural enterprises accounted for 10.04 million tons of grain, which is 47.2% higher than on the same date in 2025. Storage and processing facilities held another 5.64 million tons — up 59.8% year-on-year.

As of early April, the stock structure included 5.4 million tons of wheat (+58.5%), 8.8 million tons of corn (+46.6%), and 705.4 thousand tons of barley (+57%). At the same time, rye stocks declined to 43.36 thousand tons (-1.6%), while sunflower seed stocks fell to 2.6 million tons (-10%).

What could Ukraine’s carryover grain stocks be this year?

According to the FAS USDA, ending grain stocks in Ukraine this season have increased significantly. Corn stocks are estimated at 4.3 million tons versus 606 thousand tons a year earlier. Wheat stocks reached 2.97 million tons compared to 629 thousand tons in the previous season. Barley ending stocks rose to 1.95 million tons, up from 305 thousand tons a year earlier.

According to UkrAgroConsult analyst Maksym Kharchenko, carryover grain stocks in Ukraine are projected to increase from 4 million tons to nearly 13 million tons by the end of the 2025/26 marketing year. The key reasons include unrealised export potential due to restricted access to the EU market and intensified competition in African and Asian markets.
