Ukraine's wheat harvest passes halfway mark, reaches over 12 million tons

Farms in Ukraine harvested 17.6 million tons of new-crop grain from 4.01 million hectares, or 34% of the projected area for early grains and pulses, as of Aug. 4, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The wheat harvest passed the halfway mark, with growers harvesting 2.74 million hectares, or 53% of the projected area, and collecting 12.5 million tons at an average yield of 4.5 tons per hectare.

Barley was harvested from 1.02 million hectares (68% of the projected area), producing 4.42 million tons with an average yield of 4.3 t/ha.

Growers also harvested peas from 261,700 hectares, or 88% of the projected area, collecting 669,500 tons at an average yield of 2.5 t/ha.

The leading regions by harvested grain volume include:

• Odesa region — 3.59 million tons from 857,000 hectares;
• Mykolaiv region — 2.12 million tons from 606,200 hectares;
• Dnipropetrovsk region — 1.91 million tons from 475,400 hectares.

Ukraine also continued harvesting rapeseed. As of Aug. 4, growers harvested the crop from 910,600 hectares, or 68% of the projected area, collecting 2.39 million tons.
