Sugar exports in 9M 2020 dropped 65% YoY

Sugar export shipment in the period of Jan-Sep 2020 reached 98.05 thou. t for the amount of USD 36.9 mln. This volume is 65% lower from the corresponding period of the previous year (9M 2019: 219.9 thou. t, USD 79.3 mln)

Under the data of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the key markets in the reporting period are:

Turkey: USD 8.87 mln, 24.05% of the total supply
Libya: USD 3.26 mln, 8.84%
Palestine: USD 3.26 mln, 8.82%
other countries: USD 21.5 mln, 58.28%

As of October 28, beet sugar production in Ukraine totalled 394.5 thou. t. Sugar beet processing by the refineries on the reporting date stood at 3.01 mln t.

Sugar production in 2020/21 is projected by Ukrsugar experts at 1.2-1.3 mln t, 15% less YoY. However, this volume satisfies domestic demand. Sugar carryovers at the beginning of 2020/21 were estimated at 60-70 thou. t at processing enterprises and 40-50 thou. t at wholesale and retail trade facilities.

This year, 33 sugar plants should start the production season, which is 2 more than last year.
